I love meeting and gathering together with other creatives. It truly fills my heart with joy!
That is exactly what I got to do last month when I attended the Snap and Gather Winter Workshop at Everal Barn in Columbus, OH for a stylized photo shoot and calligraphy class. The tables were so pretty decorated with gold dinnerware and gorgeous flower arrangements by Adria from State and Arrow Design Co. After having the opportunity to photograph the details of the table/décor/food/etc. we all sat down and had a delicious lunch and started to catch up and learn all about each other. From our own businesses to families and relationships we discussed it all. We even shared stories of unexpected moments that happened in a photo sessions. Those stories definitely brought some laughs! After lunch we had our class on the art of calligraphy taught by the amazing Taylor from Inkwell & Co. Calligraphy. This is something I have loved for years and always wanted to learn. I still have some practicing to do but I cannot wait to add this special touch to my business.
Meeting other photographers whose work I have followed for years and building friendships with them is incredibly special to me.
Since I started Lauren Melanne Photography I have been pleasantly surprised with the photography community. I always had the impression that photographers were not pleased to interact and work with other photographers. They view each other as nothing more than competition and feel it necessary to keep their business “secrets” to themselves. However, I have been blessed to find a core community that believes in “Community over Competition”. Experienced photographers jump at the chance to help those just starting out with questions about how to run their business or techniques they use to make their lives easier. That is what Snap and Gather was; a day of friends in the photography community gathering together to do what they love and encourage each other along the way. How beautiful is that?
