This post will be a little longer than most but this one is incredibly special to me because...MY LITTLE SISTER IS ENGAGED!!!! I still cannot believe this is really happening and I am beyond excited for her and her fiancé, Tye! So if you know me you maybe a bit confused when I refer to my "little sister". You may be thinking to your self, "Um, Lauren...I thought you were an only child!" That is true, I am an only child. Here's the backstory. I have known Sarah and her family since I was 10 years old and when we met Sarah was only 5 years old. Our families became close and started spending more and more time together. Sarah told me once that she had always wanted a big sister and I told her I had always wanted a little sister...so we just decided we were going to be sisters. Here we are 16 years later and I still think of her as my little sister...only I haven't thought of her as little for quite some time.
I have known Tye since they began dating in 2011 when Sarah was a junior in high school and Tye was a senior. I remember liking Tye immediately and being so excited to watch Sarah go through this new relationship. To now see their relationship reach another major milestone is so exciting for me that I cannot put it into words. A few weeks ago Tye sent me a text explaining his plan to propose to Sarah at the Red, White, and Boom event in Columbus. He wanted her best friends to be included and share that special moment with them. I was so touched that he even considered sharing the moment with us instead of just the two of them. I met up with Tye and Sarah Friday evening along with Sarah's brother Matthew, Sarah's best friend from high school, Lauren, and Lauren's boyfriend Paul. I also brought my friends Rachel and Courtney along with me. They were in on the secret and excited to witness such a sweet proposal.
Tye planned for us to all meet up downtown, have dinner together, and go find a place in the park to watch the fireworks. His plan was to propose after the first firework went off...and thats exactly what he did. I know we were all excited as we waited for the first firework to come and when it finally went off we tried to play it cool as we watched Tye ask Sarah to be his wife. He leaned in and whispered in Sarah's ear as he began to pull the ring box out of his pocket. I definitely teared up behind the camera as I heard Tye say, "I love you so much, will you marry me?" Sarah was so surprised and excited as she realized what was happening. Obviously she said yes!!! We cheered and clapped and then oohed and ahhhed over the BEAUTIFUL ring. After the fireworks we made our way back to our cars as we gushed over what just happened. We walked through an alley that had beautiful stone and perfect lighting so I stopped Sarah and Tye and took a few quick shots; their first as an engaged couple!
